I’m James Thomas, and I’m a lawyer who represents people who are charged with crimes.
I went to law school because I wanted to help people. In class, I was surrounded by other students who were there so they could land a job at a firm where they could sit at a desk and print money all day. I focused on becoming the lawyer who would specialize in helping people through dark and difficult times.
Legal fees will vary depending on the facts and circumstances of your case. I always work to arrive at a fee that reflects the amount of work involved that is still fair and affordable to the client.
I almost always set flat fees for my clients. That means there’s one fee amount for your entire case. That way, you won’t be worried about hourly rates, or fees that may unpredictably change based on new information that comes up. (The rules of the South Carolina Bar prohibit contingent fees – “pay only if you win” – in criminal cases.)
All regular forms of payment accepted, including credit and debit cards.
I am unable to give a quote for a fee until I’ve had the chance to learn a little bit about your case from you. Consultations are always free, whether you want to set up a time to meet in my office or just talk over the phone or through email. (Jail or prison visits outside of Spartanburg County may require a consultation fee to account for travel.)
